Program name
Interdisciplinary Field Study Program for Co-Creating Harmonious Future

Program overview
・l Know Africa and know Japan
In Introduction to co-creating harmonious future (on-demand lectures), students learn Japan (Asia) and Ghana (Africa) from multiple perspectives—geography, history, society, culture, and development—fostering cross-cultural understanding and exploring pathways toward multicultural coexistence. Design thinking approaches are also introduced for Seminar for co-creating harmonious future (problem-based learning).
・Share Your Thoughts and Broaden Your Perspectives
In Seminar for Co-creating Harmonious Future (problem-based learning), mixed teams of Japanese and Ghanaian students engage in wide-ranging discussions on solutions to environmental challenges, drawing on their respective academic backgrounds and diverse perspectives. Given the nine-hour time difference between Japan and Ghana, discussions are conducted primarily through text-based exchanges on the JV-Campus discussion board. At the same time, online networking sessions are organized to foster face-to-face connections, ensuring a sense of mutual familiarity and trust before deeper collaborative discussions begin.
・Understand the Problem Firsthand and Take Action
In Fieldwork for Co-creating Harmonious Future A/B (fieldwork in Ghana & Japan), Japanese and Ghanaian students jointly visit sites where the “negative externalities of affluent societies” have become visible, gaining not only analytical but also experiential understanding of the challenges at hand. Through group work, students examine the background and underlying causes of these issues from multidimensional perspectives, explore interdisciplinary solutions, and ultimately propose concrete and actionable plans for change.
